Bremen vs Milan 1-1 (Diego, 84'-Pato, 36')

It ends 1-1, Brazil midfielder Diego gave Werder Bremen a UEFA Cup lifeline with a late equaliser on Wednesday to seal a 1-1 draw against AC Milan in the Round of 32 first-leg clash.
Werder Bremen and Milan at the Wesersadion for the first leg of the last 32 of the Uefa Cup. Sold out crowd, freezing temperature, but the desire to redeem themselves following the undeserved defeat in the derby warms up the Rossoneri on the pitch and on the stands. Werder is the ideal opponent: tough team who plays well against the big teams. Its last match in Europe, in the Champions League on December 9, saw them beat Jose Mourinho's Inter 2-1.
Difficult start for Milan, with two chances for Werder in the first minutes of the game, Milan took the lead in the 36th minute when Filippo Inzaghi's initial header from a Mathieu Flamini cross was blocked, but the striker was on hand to put Milan ahead by pouncing left-footed on the rebound.
In the second half Milan suffer a comeback as Werder equalize in the 84th minute: Diego rifled the ball into the back of the net after Portuguese striker Hugo Almeida won the ball in the air and the Brazilian made no mistake and goal.

"The goal really pleased me, it is very important and was a special strike," said Diego after his crucial goal with just six minutes remaining.

As statiscally Bremen with 23 shots on goal - compared to Milan's seven - Bremen should have won the game.

"We played the second-half determined to score a goal against AC Milan, that gives me hope," said Bremen coach Thomas Schaaf.
"1-1 against Milan is not bad, but not good enough for the amount of energy we spent.
Bremen go to Milan's San Siro stadium on February 26 for the second-leg with a slim chance.
"However, if we repeat that second-half in Milan, we would be in with a chance."
Thomas Schaaf added.

Therefore it ends 1-1 at the Weserstadion was a good result for Milan. A suffered second half, but considering all the missing players this was a convincing Milan side, especially for quantity and quality in midfield.
