World Football Challenge 2009

This Summer, Three of the biggest European clubs plus one Mexico's top club, England's Chelsea, Italian's AC Milan, Intern Milan and Mexico's Club America will compete in the United States in the inaugural World Football Challenge.

From 19 to 26 July the World Football Challenge 2009 will be played at the stadiums involved are Pasadena's Rose Bowl (where the World Cup final in 1994 was played between Brazil and Italy), the Georgia Doma of Atlanta, the MT&T Bank Stadium of Baltimore, the Gillette Stadium of Foxborough and Stanford Stadium of Palo Alto, in California.

"Milan will meet very important teams like Club America, Chelsea, with whom we played on U.S. soil twice, and Internazionale, our city rivals." AC Milan Organizing Director Umberto Gandini said.

Derby della Madonnina will continue at Gillette Stadium (Foxborough, Mass.). The interest thing here, the history clash both of the teams fourty years ago will be repeated and will become the second derby at Italy outside at the same state.

The last time Milan and Inter played a derby in the Usa was 29 June 1969. The New York Yankee Stadium was the main ground of a four-team tournament that also included Panathinaikos and Sparta Prague. After the two semifinals, there was the big final between the Rossoneri and the Nerazzurri. The Milan team included Trapattoni and Lodetti, Cudicini and Rivera, while Inter had Jair and Mazzola, Corso and Domenghini. After the first half finished 4-3 for Milan, the match finished 6-4 to the Rossoneri thanks to goals by Rivera, Anquilletti, Combin (brace) and Rognoni (brace).

Next summer, exactly forty years later, there's another derby in the Usa. This time it will be played at the Gillette Stadium of Foxborough, where Italy beat Spain in the quarter finals of the 1994 World Cup.
